New VEGMAX filter! 3 micron with integrated water separator/prefilter function, the fuel is heated with coolant, and the fuel and coolant fittings are "clockable" O-ring boss to hose barb type. Convenient top-mount design means the VEGMAX can be mounted in tight locations, and the filter element can then be removed easily. Filter elements are a water-blocking type. (Note that oil must still be properly settled, filtered and checked for water before putting it in the tank! See "Used Cooking Oil the Easy Way", the article on our home page) VEGMAX filter unit can be mounted though a flat floor or fender well (mounting bracket required, make your own or use one of ours if it will fit your application, and you will need to drill a hole for the drain valve, using a holesaw) or, more commonly, mounted with one of the two sets of 3/8" NPT threaded mounting holes. There is one pair of these on each side. The filter is therefore not "handed" (no "left" or "right" handed ordering decision) The bottom drain allows draining of sediment and of the filter at filter change time. Unit re-primes easily after a filter change. Our 12 Volt 3-port valves can be mounted to the filter base, with optional spacer plates. VALVES ARE NOT INCLUDED, SEE ELSEWHERE ON THIS SITE TO ORDER. This makes for compact and convenient valve mounting. There are valve-mounting holes on all four sides. Valves can also be stacked, again using the optional spacer plates. Fuel In and Fuel Out are clearly marked. There are 4 coolant ports. These are all interconnected. They accept the included 3/8" hose barb ORB type fittings, which can be angled to any desired angle, then tightened, a major advantage over threaded NPT type fittings! The ports directly accept our Overnighter 12 Volt DC 2 amp heating element, which keeps the filter warm and ready to go. (Read about the Overnighter elsewhere) The VEGMAX will warm up very quickly as soon as the engine is running and warmed coolant is being supplied, but for near-Arctic conditions, the Overnighter can be a benefit. The SVSW50C Early Switchover Preventer can also be added to the other of the two "spare" ports. The addition of that device means that you can switch the vegetable oil system "on" as soon as you start the engine, and it will not actually switch over to vegoil until the coolant reaches 50 degrees C. The fittings are included with this filter. They are O-Ring Boss type, for fuel and coolant. They are a 3/8" hose barb. A 120V AC pad heater can easily be stuck onto the side of the VEGMAX if desired. Multiple VEGMAX units can be welded together to form a two or three stage filtration system with descending micron levels of filter elements installed. Inquire. The VEGMAX can be mounted filter-side-down, but if this is done, the integrated water separator/prefilter function will be lost and the filter element alone will be the only filter. A water-separator type spin-on element could be substituted in this application, by the user (the element that ships with the unit is a water-separating type, but since it was intended to be top-mounted, it has no bottom drain). In the normal "filter element at top" mounting position, and with properly prefiltered (settled and bag filtered to 10 microns, minimum), most users are getting at least 5000 km per filter element. Many are getting more. VegMax Specifications: 3.5" x 3.5" x a mere 9" tall (including filter element) Drain valve adds 1.75" (but can be on underside of sheet metal floor, fender, etc. - see below) Weight, fully assembled, approx. 5 pounds. Minimum clearance height needed above filter to remove and change filter element: 1.25" Top-mount filter for easy filter changes in tight engine bays, etc. Just warm up the filter, loosen element, open the drain. No need to fill the replacement element with oil, the filter will self-bleed and re-prime very easily! Minimum side clearance needed for installed fittings: 1 1/4" Filter element supplied: 5 micron high flow water separating type. Fittings supplied for coolant and fuel, 3/8" hose barb "ORB" (O-ring Boss), can be oriented to most any desired angle. One straight fitting may be needed (supplied) to prevent fitting interferences. Two spare coolant ports. Can be used for temperature sensor, SVSW50C Automatic Switchover Sensor, Overnighter 12V DC filter low amperage filter warmer, etc. Extra threaded mounting holes for mounting brackets, 3-port valves, etc. (spacer plates needed if mounting valves - valves can also be "stacked" using an extra spacer plate and longer bolts). Filter is normally oriented element-side-up. Replacement of element:Open drain valve at bottom, loosen element slightly, drain, then replace element. Filter can be oriented element-down, but the integrated water separator/prefilter feature will be lost in this case.
