Dodge 1998.5-2002 24-Valve with VM2

Dodge 1998.5-2002 24-Valve with VM2

Includes: our coolant-heated  3 micron fuel filter    and 90 degree elbow fittings to easily connect 3/8" ID coolant and fuel lines.

The Bosch VP-44 injection pump will fail if not supplied with sufficient fuel pressure - and this can occur even on diesel. For a vegetable oil conversion, you must add a very reliable 12V lift pump or your VP-. For this reason we only sell a kit for the 24-Valve Cummins that includes a FASS 12V pump with  a 23A motor and is guaranteed for 2 years. It’s not cheap - but it’s cheaper than a new VP-44!

Additionally, we urge you install a fuel pressure gauge *and* a low fuel pressure warning light from Geno’s Garage: http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BD-1081130 (search around for their fuel pressure gauges and senders - they have several - and gauge pods.)

The kit includes:

1.  TTVTM with VM2, Vegtherm Mega, 6-port valve, etc

  2. Dodge’s are set up for towing and run cool, so we incllude a 26-plate HotPlate stainless steel flat plate coolant-fuel heat exchanger. See categories menu left.

3. For the WVO side, you’ll need the FASS pump, and that's included in the kit. The FASS has a 23 amp motor, built-in fuel pressure regulator, 2 year warranty, wiring harness, and mounting bracket. $555.  See categories menu left.

You'll need a  2nd tank, either from us or something you purchase elsewhere. Ours are described here:

http://www.plantdrive.com/html/tanksinfo.html and purchased here: See categories menu left. (and you'd want one of the 4 Universal Truck Tanks.) See below for other choices in tanks.

Your 2nd tank will require a reliable and leak-proof fuel heater/heated fuel pickup. Well selll the all-stainless HotFox,  described and available for purchase here for $209: See categories menu left.

Unlike most of the other kit vendors, we don't have a one-size-fits-all kit for most vehicles: rather, we offer choices that you'll make based on your budget, the climate in which you drive, the length of your commute, etc. Which of course can be confusing. The following links will help you decide whether or not the 6-port valve that ships with the 6.0 Powerstroke kit is right for your climate and driving style or whether you want to upgrade to 2 or 3 3-port valves; and whether your 2nd tank is something you buy from us or from other vendors (links provided.)

(And if you decide to upgrade from the default 6-port valve that ships with the klt, you'd order 1 High Flow Valve (see Categories on the left side of this page) if you want 2 High Flow Valves, and order 2 High Flow Valves if you want 3. In each case, we trade the 6-port for one High Flow Valve, so you always order 1 less High Flow Valve than you actually want.)

(And the advantage of 3 High Flow Valves over 2 is quicker purge times, which means less purchased fuel used, but also is of benefit with a VOController, since you   may  decide to opt for the all-automatic option when programming the controller (not only auto-switchover from diesel to vegetable oil, but auto-purging: turn off the key, lock the doors, and walk away while the vehicle continues to run until the diesel has purged the vegetable oil from the system. An unattended but running vehicle is a carjack target (even though you've got the key in your pocket and the vehicle will stall once the purge is complete) so a quicker purge time helps keep the idiots away. (And "quicker" is hard to quantify - it depends on the vehicle. But a typical passenger car will see purge times shortened from 2-3 minutes at idle to less than a minute, and a truck's purge can be 3-4 minutes at idle with 2 valves, and about a minute with 3 valves.)

3.  "Our Tanks and Cheaper Tanks" ( http://www.plantdrive.com/html/faq.html#29 )

(Note - the 3rd valve, if you opt for 3, allows you to un-loop the returning fuel at shutdown or purge. For info on the benefits of looping the returning vegetable oil, see FAQ #31: http://www.plantdrive.com/html/faq.html

Un-looping the return at purge results in quicker purge times, aka less $ spent on purchased fuel.)

If you opt for 2 or 3 3-port valves instead of the default 6-port valve, you need a controller, and we sell the $249 NADA Controller, the $325 VOControls Starter Controller, and the $499 VOControls deluxe controller with LCD display. See categories menu left.

The Installation Manual does not ship with the product. Rather, we send it to you in PDF format when we send you a shipping confirmation. We also tell you where to download Adobe Acrobat, in either Windows or Mac versions, in case you don't have it, so that you can open the PDF attachment.

Not included are coolant or fuel hose or hose clamps. The manual tells you where to buy them at local auto parts stores or online. We do this to keeps the cost of the kit down - hose is bulky and expensive to ship. Also when we shipped hose, years ago, we had to include enough for a worst-case scenario; that is, long wheelbase trucks with an 8' bed and an extended cab need more hose than a shorter truck, and customers would either want to return unused hose, feel badly about taking it to landfill or were loath to add it to the other junk in their garage. And of course they'd paid for that unneeded hose. As for hoseclamps: we give you a phone # for McMaster-Carr and the part number for their finest hoseclamps, and if you order before 5 and you live west of the Mississippi you'll have your clamps by 10 AM the next morning, 10 AM the following day if you're east of the Mississippi. You'll pay less than if we included them in the kit and you can easily order more if you add a heating component like a HotFox or HotPlate later The cost for an average passenger car for hose and clamps will be under $150, and for a truck, under $200.

We tell you how to assemble a hose-on-hose assembly. You'll bundle the synthetic rubber fuel lines with the synthetic rubber coolant lines so that the hot coolant exchanges it's heat with the fuel in an adjacent line. Hose-on-hose is easier to run that hose-in-hose but more importantly, you avoid the risk of losing the coolant due to an imperfectly installed compression fitting, or a compression fitting that loosens over time, with the very real possibility that your engine will overheat, resulting in a blown head gasket, cracked or warped head, cracked block or all of the above.

A NOTE ON TANKS:

We do not include tanks with these kits as many people do not need in-tank heat (see above) and our kits are not dependent on in-tank heat to work. Therefore, a wide range of tank options is possible. Customers have installed the Hotfox, if needed, in almost any conceivable tank. Some vehicles have two tanks. One can certainly be used if you wish, for SVO. We recommend the tank be removed, cleaned, install the Hotfox while removed, and then reinstalled. Others have used surplus tanks, recycled tanks, Tidy Tanks, Northern Tool truck bed tanks, tanks with tool boxes as part of them, plastic marine tanks, RCI aluminum tanks from summitracing.com, dune buggy tanks from jegs.com, etc.

Basically, with our kit you are not locked into buying a tank from us and you have a wide price range, size, and mounting locations to choose from.

If you do get one from us, it will be thicker aluminum and a stronger, better tank than others sell, with a method of filling that is convenient, and your spare tire will stay in the car, typically, in the spare tire well. Any tank you use must be properly installed, mounted solidly, vented, etc.

Here's our Tanks page:  http://www.plantdrive.com/shop/home.php?cat=75  and for tanks from other vendors, see:  http://www.plantdrive.com/html/faq.html#29

CAN YOU INSTALL THIS KIT? If you are a capable and careful "backyard mechanic". If not, get help from a friend who is, or from a professional mechanic who is willing to read our instructions and work with you/us, or get one of our dealers to install it - see our Dealer page. (In that case, have the DEALER order your kit for you, it costs you the same either way and they get their dealer discount.)
