12V - fits Racor R90T clear bowl with 9/16" fitting, draws only a few amps. Use with Battery Brain III or iV - great way to reduce switchover times on 2-tank systems in cold weather or make practical winter use of high cloud point oils/biodiesel on single tank systems. Wire via toggle switch (not included), or for a superior application, combine with our Battery Brain III or Battery Brain IV. If using toggle switch approach, switch on at least 15 minutes before starting out after parking overnight, filter will be warmed and ready fo use. Not all bowls shipped with Vormax fllters and R90T filter elements have a 9/16" fitting. Unless you pull the small plug and confirm that the outside diameter of the threaded portion of plug is in fact 9/16" you either have to drill and tap the bowl (tap is a 9/16" x 18) or buy a new bowl from us. For greater convenience, use Battery Brain III or iV. Battery Brain is a device which allows the 12V heater to be switched on when parking overnight without fear of a dead battery. If battery should happen to drop to 12.5 volts, vehicle battery will switch off. Battery Brain iV has a pushbutton in vehicle, push to turn car battery back on if battery shutoff has occured. Battery Brain III has even more versatility - a remote control on key chain allows user to turn battery on and off at will from a distance. So, 12V filter heater element can be switched on at toggle switch, then user simply shuts off car battery, then turns on car battery in the morning, from house window, for example, allowing filter heating to begin. This approach also means Battery Brain functions as a simple theft prevention device as well as a means of controlling the filter heater remotely. NOTE: the low amperage draw of this heater means it must be used at least 15 minutes (varies with ambient temperature and oil, guideline only) before anticipated use of the filter. It is not intended as an "instant" heater, and it will not heat flowing oil - it is simpy intended to eliminate the #1 "plugging" point in a fuel system in cold weather and/or with high cloud point oil/biodiesel - the fuel filter. If used as intended, it is very effective at allowing fat switchovers and preventing fitler gelling problems. For best results and minimal amperage draw, insulate the R90T element with a wrap or two of the common "aluminum bubble pack" material used for insulating water heaters, etc. (see hardware store), and use a ziptie to secure insulation in place around filter. This can be slid off filter element and reused when filter element if changed.
